Come Discover USC! During my last visit to the Metro DC area

Come Discover USC! During my last visit to the Metro DC area we worked at one of our Discover USC programs. We host these programs for prospective students throughout the world to make certain that students and families gain information that is helpful USC and our application process. Although we’d love for everyone to check out USC, we realize it’s simply not feasible, so we try our most useful to create a bit of USC to you!

During Discover programs we hope presenting ourselves as organized and professional. That generally means we appear extra-early, run around like crazy people making sure the brochures we sent in advance have arrived, curse at non-functioning technology, while having the hotel manager’s quantity on speed dial. Luckily we were ready to go before the first family arrived (there is always one that arrives at least a half hour early! for me, this time in D.C., there was no digging through offices and mail rooms to find our boxes of materials, our Power Point miraculously worked, and) We understand that families invest a lot of the time attending information sessions, touring campuses, and filling down applications, so we want to make sure we are supplying the best information within the most efficient way at all our events. We usually have some wonderful USC alums lend hand when they are available. We constantly question my life alternatives when I tune in to just what our alums are up to. Legislation school at Georgetown…working for the CIA….no big deal.

I was scheduled to speak quickly at this program. A big part of my task is speaking in public; I give presentations to high school students in auditoriums, classrooms, and career centers on a regular basis. So I have always been generally very comfortable talking to a group. That stuff doesn’t anymore faze me. However, put me in a hotel ball space using the Dean of Admission (my boss’s boss’s employer) and get me to speak, and I’ll feel a little nervous ( just a tad!)

It was great to see a few familiar faces of students I had met at high schools that week. I talked with one family members that has driven about four hours to wait! Although we loved that the family was here, do not feel that you’ve got to make that sacrifice. Whenever we aren’t coming to a city towards you, please feel free to simply let your admission counselor know that you need more information but can not attend a Discover system.

As soon as our formal presentation is finished there’s an opportunity to inquire and hear from admission counselors from academic divisions. Pupils can split into groups according to area of interest and have major related questions as well. I heard from numerous families who were having their first experience with USC that evening. A few other parents shared they had already been to USC, but they learned something new which somehow changed their perspective on the college application process or about USC with me that. I also talked with a parent who showed up to have some information that is outdated USC or had accumulated some information based on somebody else’s experience. This is an opportunity that is great moms and dads to refresh their knowledge and learn about present day USC.

One of the final, and something of my personal favorite, comments I been aware of the evening was ‘now I understand why everybody else has a great deal college spirit!’ A job well done on our component.

At Discover USC! Maybe you will learn something new…you never know if we are coming to a city near you, or if you will be in Los Angeles on November 22nd, please come visit us!
